Environmental antimicrobial resistance is associated with faecal pollution in Central Thailand’s coastal aquaculture region

چکیده

We assessed antimicrobial resistance (AMR) potential to seven major classes of antibiotics in Central Thailand’s coastal aquaculture region using high-throughput qPCR targeting 295 antibiotic genes (ARGs) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs). In parallel, we used MinION next generation sequencing (NGS) 16S rRNA gene amplicons, faecal pollution makers, conventional plate count methods for the comprehensive characterization environmental microbiomes. tested hypothesis that increases AMR by comparing ARGs MGEs water sediment samples from five sites their associated canals. There was no evidence ARG MGE data is a driver Thailand. Instead, highest relative prevalence traits found Hua Krabue canal influenced urban Bangkok at inland edge region. The sum MGEs, as markers overall bacterial abundance, between 0.495 ± 0.011 0.498 0.013 water, compared with most 0.132 0.005 all other samples. Corresponding patterns were observed markers, which also elevated water.

Antimicrobial resistance in aquaculture.

Appropriate antimicrobial therapy represents one of the most effective management responses to emergencies associated with infectious disease epizootics. The use of these agents, however, has the potential to increase the frequencies of bacterial resistance and this would have a negative impact on the subsequent use of these agents to control infectious disease in aquaculture. There is also a p...

Environmental impact of aquaculture and countermeasures to aquaculture pollution in China.

GOAL, SCOPE AND BACKGROUND Aquaculture activities are well known to be the major contributor to the increasing level of organic waste and toxic compound in the aquaculture industry. Along with the development of intensive aquaculture in China, concerns are evoked about the possible effects of ever-increasing aquaculture waste both on productivity inside the aquaculture system and on the ambient...

Salmon Aquaculture and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Marine Environment

Antimicrobials used in salmon aquaculture pass into the marine environment. This could have negative impacts on marine environmental biodiversity, and on terrestrial animal and human health as a result of selection for bacteria containing antimicrobial resistance genes. We therefore measured the numbers of culturable bacteria and antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in marine sediments in the Calbu...

Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in finfish aquaculture environments

Consumer demand for affordable fish drives the ever-growing global aquaculture industry. The intensification and expansion of culture conditions in the production of several finfish species has been coupled with an increase in bacterial fish disease and the need for treatment with antimicrobials. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance prevalent in aquaculture environ...
